The death took place yesterday from complications arising out of the prevailing epidemic of Ernest Seldon Pyke, Government inspector of machinery, surveyor of ships, etc. Mr Pyke joined the service in 1900 as engineer on board the s.s. Hinemos, and was for a period prior to joining the local inspection of machinery office in October, 1916, chief engineer on board the training vessel Amokura. He was well and favourably known in shipping circles throughout the Dominion, and his many friends will regret his death at the comparatively early age of 46 years. Mr Pyke leaves a wife and three young children to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father
